A mercenary (Adrien Brody) reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they've been brought together on an alien planet... as prey, systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.

How Does this new Predator installment compare to The Governator's Original?

Contrary to Hollywood's latest trend of hitting "Reset" on every franchise ever, this movie is actually a direct sequel to the original two Predator films, and ignoring the Alien vs Predator films entirely. And rightfully so, since Predators is miles above the spin-off series, and possibly the second sequel with Danny Glover. The action is well-done and conventional, the computer effects aren't relied on too heavily. The writing and dialogue is practically a love letter to the original Predator film and all the fans of it. The actors are all competent, some packing more of a punch than you'd think. But most importantly, it's just a good, fun, fast-paced time.

Rather than trying to out-do the amount of weight in muscle the first movie had, Predators goes the opposite direction by having a diverse cast that is tough because of who they are: criminals, killers, former military, etc. Leading in both example and in the story is Adrien Brody, who definitely still tried to be as ripped as possible for the role. What really helps him to stand out from the rest is how his character begins in one place, and then moves to another. Could it be...character development? In an ACTION film?! Say it isn't so!!

Going down the list of the actors involved, no one would blame you for looking twice when you see Topher "I Don't Belong Here" Grace. Mind you, he doesn't do a bad job; he takes what he's given and he makes the best of it, which is more than anyone from The Last Airbender can do. But if anyone stands out, it's him, no question. And without giving anything away, considering his character, maybe that's a good thing.

A nod of approval to Lawrence Fishburne's character, who's been on the hunting preserve for a long, long time. All of his traits and quirks are totally and completely believable, and what's more impressive is how subtle it's played out. Both his performance and his character speak very softly. A compelling performance.
